Greetings HHSE Friends & Followers - the first major picture that will benefit from the new HHSE financing tool of collateral shares (to be pledged but not released), is an epic and historic feature thriller about the Greek revolutionary movement known as 17N. The impressive script for 17N REVOLUTION transcends the political timing and universal impact of Hemdale's PLATOON, and promises to be not only a major box office release... but also a title destined for top awards status.
Hannover House (and the Hemdale releasing brand) have entered into a venture with Crisis Cinema of Athens for director Giorgos Papatheodorou's powerful story of the late 20th Century fight for democracy in Greece. Inspired by the government massacre of student protestors at the Polytechnic University (Nov. 17, 1973), a resistance movement known as "17N" began as series of anti-government terrorist actions that ultimately led to the overthrown of the authoritarian structure and facilitated the rise Democracy in Greece.
One of the seminal moments that sparked worldwide attention to the 17N movement occurred on Dec. 23, 1975, with the shocking assassination of Athens C.I.A. Stationmaster, Richard Welch, which remains to this day the highest profile killing ever of a C.I.A. officer.
The $10-mm budgeted drama-thriller will feature four significant international stars, whose cumulative box office results exceed $15-billion. The film will shoot in Athens and Ioannina, Greece in November and December (2026) as well as Nicosia, Cyprus in January (2027), and is expected to be the official Cyprus entry for the Oscars in 2027. The producers anticipate a major international film festival premiere prior to a wide North American theatrical release in October, 2027. The USA release through Hemdale (HHSE), will be timed to a wide theatrical release on the same weekend in Greece and France. Additional major markets for presales and coordinated worldwide release will be pursued during the coming months.
Legal consultation for the production venture, bank financing, distribution sales and major cast contracts will be handled by industry veteran attorney and deal maker JERE HAUSFATER (formerly SVP at Disney), with both Hausfater and HHSE CEO Eric Parkinson credited as the film's Executive Producers.
The production budget for 17N Revolution includes a substantial "Overhead and Administrative" fee for Hannover House to be paid during the production period... as well as the company to earn distribution fees and equity in the film. Under the financing structure, the entire capitalization of the movie will ultimately be reflected on the HHSE Balance sheets, despite a majority of funding coming from various Greek production incentives and production ventures. The HHSE Distribution rights will be held by the company in perpetuity, so that the HHSE can build its film library with higher-profile titles that are not subject to expiration within the first decade following the initial release launch.
Due to various "NDA" agreements, the major cast members will NOT be announced until actual filming in November... nor will the precise structure of the government incentives, co-production ventures and non-recourse collateral pledge until that time.
17N Revolution is the first of a slate of major feature productions that HHSE / Hemdale will be facilitating and distributing under the recently enacted collateral financing structure.
Writer-Director Giorgos Papatheodorou is a major figure within the Greek production community - and everywhere that the HHSE team accompanied him for meetings, scouting and dining throughout Greece, he was treated like royalty.
Much more to follow on 17N Revolution, and other activities of HHSE / Hemdale NOW IN MOTION for building the company into one of the top entertainment studios.
