GATHR Joins Recently Revived Hemdale Films to Expand Release of Acclaimed Documentary “TORN”
New York / Los Angeles / Boston —
August 21, 2025 – The acclaimed
documentary TORN: The Israel-Palestine Poster War on NYC Streets (https://www.torn-film.com/), directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Nim
Shapira, will open in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday,
September 5, 2025.
In a major boost to the release, The Gathr Companies
(GATHR®) has joined forces with Hemdale Films, a releasing
affiliate of Hannover House, Inc. (OTC: HHSE), to expand TORN
nationwide, utilizing its trailblazing Direct To Audience℠ (DTA) technology platform.
GATHR, whose recent titles include the Oscar-winning No Other Land,
the acclaimed labor documentary Union, and the current box office
darling The Last Class, will also deploy its Theatrical On
Demand® platform to power the film’s expansion across the United States. The
partnership ensures TORN’s conversations reach far beyond New York and
Los Angeles, into arthouses, campuses, and communities nationwide.
GATHR’s involvement
follows the film’s critically acclaimed pre-release momentum, with over 70
advance screenings across the U.S. and Canada — from major cities including New
York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, and San Francisco to universities, interfaith forums,
and cultural institutions.
“TORN is a film
about consequences – the unintended, the human, the deeply personal,” said
director Nim Shapira. “My hope is that audiences will see their own reflections
in the people on screen and perhaps discover a renewed capacity for empathy,
even in the most divisive of conflicts.”
“This film is a microcosm
of unintended consequences and required viewing for people interested in
conflict resolution,” said Scott Glosserman, CEO of The Gathr Companies.
“Documentaries, especially, are empathy-building machines, and TORN is
one of the most urgent examples I’ve ever seen. This is a film that demands to
be seen, discussed, and felt.”
Eric Parkinson, CEO of
Hemdale Films — the legendary banner behind Platoon, The Last Emperor,
and The Terminator — added: “Hemdale has always been defined by bold,
conversation-starting cinema. TORN continues that tradition, and with
GATHR’s model it can reach audiences on a scale that reflects the urgency of
its message. We are honored to release 'Torn' under the newly resurrected
Hemdale releasing brand, as a major division of Hannover House.”
Set in the aftermath of
October 7, TORN documents how a grassroots poster campaign to raise
awareness for the 251 hostages taken by Hamas spiraled into a symbolic war on
New York streets. Through the voices of ten New Yorkers — including hostage
family members, artists, students, activists, a free speech expert, and a rabbi
— the film reveals how a distant conflict ruptured civic life at home.
